Why You Should Use Velocity Instead of BungeeCord or Waterfall

If you're planning to create a Minecraft network, Velocity is currently the best option available. BungeeCord is now considered legacy software, and its most popular fork, Waterfall, is already EOL (End of Life) and EOS (End of Support) — meaning it no longer receives updates or security patches.

• Uses significantly fewer resources while handling large networks with hundreds of players.
• Does not rewrite Entity IDs (which causes lag, bugs, and mod compatibility issues). Instead, it uses a native Minecraft client method that is far more efficient.
• Much faster packet compression using libdeflate (roughly twice as fast as traditional methods).
• Deep Java optimizations that better utilize the JIT Compiler.

2. Enhanced Security

• Built-in advanced protection against DDoS attacks.
• Unique player information forwarding system (for 1.13+ versions) that uses a secret key between the proxy and backend servers. This makes UUID spoofing attacks much harder to execute.

3. Better Mod and Modern Standards Support

• Excellent compatibility with Fabric and Forge mods.
• Full support for the Adventure library (the current standard for messages and text components).
• Much more friendly toward the modding community compared to BungeeCord.

• While it may break internal API between major versions, it maintains strong backward compatibility with older plugins.
