In Minecraft, "OP" gives a player full unrestricted access to every single command and permission on the server. This includes the ability to stop the server, ban anyone, give themselves any item, change game rules, and more.
Because of this, OP is an extremely dangerous tool. If a player with OP gets their account compromised, or if they decide to abuse it, they can destroy your entire server in seconds. For this reason, we strongly recommend never giving OP to regular staff or players.
Instead of OP, use a modern permission plugin such as LuckPerms. LuckPerms lets you create precise ranks (Helper, Mod, Admin, etc.) and give each rank only the exact permissions it needs. This is safer, more flexible, and the industry standard for almost every professional Minecraft server.
You should only use the op command once, during the very first setup of your server, so you can install and configure plugins. After that, remove OP from yourself and manage everything through LuckPerms.
Log in to your server’s control panel: https://panel.plox.host/
On the left-hand side, click Console.
In the console, type: op <your-username> Example: if your username is ThatFlick, type: op ThatFlick
Note: When you type a command in the console, the panel automatically adds the / for you, so you do not need to type it.
Press the Send button (or hit Enter on your keyboard).
If successful, you will see a message similar to:
[Server] INFO Made ThatFlick a server operator
Once LuckPerms (or your chosen permission plugin) is installed and configured:
From this point forward, manage all permissions exclusively through LuckPerms. Never leave OP enabled on any account during normal operation.
If you need help setting up LuckPerms or creating proper ranks, feel free to open a support ticket, we’re happy to assist.
